REVIEW BY JOE KING
PROPHETIC WORSHIP LEADER AND RECORDING ARTIST FROM THE UK
This album is a marvel, given that all the instrumental sounds are guitar-generated through a midi interface and sound module. Any guitarists out there should buy it purely from a technical point of view, to see just what is possible on a very limited budget.

Favourite tracks are 'Hand That Guides My Life', particularly the chorus section, "You hold the stars in your hand, you bind the sea to the land, and you always think of me."
'I Must Be Hungry' is one of the songs which would work really well in a congregational setting, even though the words are deeply intimate, "I don't know when I've loved you so, I'm not ashamed to say it's so."

Also Loren's acoustic guitar playing is phenomenal, amply demonstrated on, 'Dancing Strings'.

With some albums, you're just getting into a particular mood and then the mood is broken. This album is essentially one mood. Put track one on, lie back in a bath of the Holy Spirit and soak for an hour.

  • HAND THAT GUIDES MY LIFE - This entire CD is mellow - for soaking and meditating - so to say this song is mellow would be redundant and obvious. Lyrically, it's a passionate song of praise for the God who guides the universe, yet thinks personally of me at all times in the infinity of His love.  SAMPLE IN MP3.
  • IN YOUR EYES - A song of the love and joy with which the Creator formed the universe and each of us individually. Includes the reversal of the death we ourselves introduced into His love-bathed creation, "giving life upon death's tree."  SAMPLE IN MP3.
  • WHEN YOU CALL ME - No matter how I feel, He is there with power. When He calls, I'll respond. When I'm afraid, His love covers. A "power" song of affirmation of who He is.  SAMPLE IN MP3.
  • WE WILL RISE - After 9/11 I could feel the nation's shock, fear and uncertainty. In the midst of it all, Father filled me with a sense of His nearness and strength. Out of that I wrote this song of devotion and defiant worship in the face of adversity. "We will rise up to worship. We will rise up in power. We will rise up to praise You. We will rise up this hour."  SAMPLE IN MP3.
  • IN THIS HOLY PLACE - So sweetly simple. Together with all those I love, in the Lord's sanctuary I reach out to worship the God who is our Father in love. SAMPLE IN P3.
  • I MUST BE HUNGRY - A touch of folk and maybe a hint of country. One of the most popular songs of deep worship recently introduced at New Song. Be hungry. Ache for God.  SAMPLE IN MP3.
  • SUMMER RAIN - A sweet song of refreshment. The refreshing presence of the Lord leads us to worship, while worship leads us to yet more refreshment. SAMPLE IN MP3.
  • I CAN ALMOST SEE - This was an in-studio improvisation. I just started playing and worshipping and let it flow, then added layers. Hints of "Amazing Grace" in this one, but in a form you've never heard. SAMPLE IN MP3.
  • DANCING STRINGS - I improvised this one, too. It's all guitar, in an alternate tuning, played as the Spirit gave it in instrumental worship.  SAMPLE IN MP3.
  • AND I COULD CRY - I can almost "remember" the sound of worship in heaven and my heart aches to recreate it. I always fail, but some of it leaks through. "O I can hear their voices in my ear! The angel song falls softly in my tears, and every desperate longing not shall rise, when I could cry!" This one was too hard to break up so our sample include the entire song. Enjoy!  SAMPLE IN MP3.
