THE ALBUM
REVOLUTION is a worship album,
carefully crafted in the studio for maximum richness. The songs are
new, but thoroughly tested in the fire and wonder of worship at New
Song Fellowship in Denver, Colorado. Each one flows from the intensity
of the Presence of the Lord we feel in the revival we have so enjoyed
since 1996. Worship of the living God is our highest value. We hope
this album provides a rich resource for new songs in many churches and
groups.
THE SONGS
WHOSE FOOL ARE YOU
-- Hot
and driving jazz/blues/rock. Good for dancing. Sometimes in revival we
find ourselves so full of the Presence that we behave as David did when
he danced before the Lord with such reckless abandon as to draw the
scorn of his wife, Michal. And it isn't just in worship. It's life in
general. "I'm a fool for Jesus! Whose fool are you?" A song of joyous
defiance.
GIVIN' IT UP -- Another
"dancer" with a rock beat, celebrating and inviting God's overwhelming
love. "Love me out of my control!" Suitable for shouting. I wrote it
for those who have trouble getting past the religious reserve so
carefully trained into them since childhood. Believe it, pray it and be
free.
REVOLUTION -- Title cut. An unabashed and exuberant declaration of a
revolution of love in a style reminiscent of some great stuff by the
secular group ZZ Top. As Martin Luther so well stated, "Why should the
devil have all the good music?" This is rock 'n' roll at its best. Our
people love it!
RISE UP O GOD -- More great, hard
driving rock! This is a warfare song affirming and inviting the power
of God and is one of the most enduring tunes I've ever written for
worship. It's lasted through 12 years and 3 churches and just never
seems to wear out.
MORE -- "More, Lord!" stands as the most enduring cry of the
current revival. Somewhere between mellow and rowdy in mood, this song
soars with praise for what and who our Lord is, and cries for more of
what He so willingly wants to give.
AS THE EAGLE -- Exuberantly mellow with an underlying rhythmic urgency.
Scripture promises that those who wait upon the Lord will rise up with
wings as eagles. This is a song of soaring on the wings of the Spirit
of God to gaze in wonder on His holiness. Deeply refreshing.
STRONG -- Jesus is our light in the darkness, our strength in
weakness. "Gentle as a dove, yet hear the Lion's roar!" Very mellow and
devotional, yet strong in flavor and impact.
ONLY IN YOUR EYES -- A deeply worshipful song of devotion and humility. A
prayer that each of us would see ourselves reflected in the eyes of the
Lord and understand our smallness in His greatness. "And Your holiness
reveals me as I am in my humanity, O Lord."
PSALM 5 -- As the title implies,
this one is adapted from the Scripture. There is a kind of prayer that
stays quiet and pleading and there is a kind of prayer that takes wing
and flies in power and passion. This one flies in power and passion. We
recorded it for the sound of angels praying with us. Listen and see if
we succeeded.
ONCE BLIND -- This one draws tears. I drew hard on an old Celtic melody
and wrote a very mellow song of gratitude for the Lord's gift of His
salvation that enables us to see and sense the wonder and the love His
Presence brings. Haunting in melodic and lyrical tone, as well as the
style of the recording.
HERE AM I -- When asked by the Lord, "Who will go for us?" Isaiah
replied, "Here am I, send me." Mellow and soaringly powerful all at the
same time, this song flies in the face of the self-absorption of our
generation. As we sing it, we present ourselves before God to declare
that we see and feel the pain of the lost world around us, and we ask
to be sent in the name of the Lord to meet that need.
TIME TO BE FREE -- If a song can be a plea for a church of gentleness, mercy
and refuge and a powerful declaration of victory and freedom all at the
same time, this is it. Another song that goes back 15 years and 3
churches. So good it just never wears out. Touches some deep and
abiding needs in the hearts of God's people.
SUNLIGHT ON THE SNOW -- The bonus track, recorded after we thought the album was
finished. Late at night, I was returning to the church to get something
I had forgotten when this wonderful Appalachian melody began to play in
my mind. Within a mile or two the first words took shape. When I got to
the church I forgot what I'd come to retrieve, ran straight to the
studio and recorded all three verses in 4 part harmony just as you hear
them on the album. The following Sunday I pitched it lower and added
instrumentation for the congregation, and it became a favorite,
requested over and over again.
