RELUCTANTLY, I TOLD YOU SO
The results are
in. Barack
Obama is now our president elect. I prophesied this months ago in spite
of the overwhelming majority of other prophetic voices I have heard
saying otherwise. Obama's victory was Part One of what the Lord told
me.
Part Two was that we will now see six months or so of renewed national hope. I believe this hope will be largely delusionary. I believe that America as we have known it will now be irrevocably changed as we swing ever more to the left politically and philosophically and ever more toward a kind of globalism that may threaten certain elements of our national sovereignty and identity. Part Three was that, following this six months of hope, I saw a whirlwind of confusion and change that appeared to me as a small tornado with papers caught up and swirling in it. I hesitate to speculate on what that may mean because I'm not certain of what I've heard, so on that score I'll remain silent until I hear more. Important question: How could so many prophetic voices have been so wrong? Reliable people with more fame and notoriety than I have enjoyed prophesied a McCain victory. With just one or two exceptions I felt alone in what I believed I had heard. One prophetic voice I deeply respect predicted that national revulsion over the Democratic liberal agenda would precipitate a landslide toward McCain. Another felt that some kind of disturbing event would happen just before the election that would turn the outcome. Others painted other scenarios. My answer to the question is that we have not yet matured sufficiently in our ability to hear God. We do not yet adequately understand how to sift our own deep inner desires and feelings from the genuine voice of the Lord. The more important the issue or deep the desire, the more unclear the hearing. Flesh gets into it. I am not immune. Over the years, I have encountered this in relation to my own hearing from God when it concerns the congregation I pastor. The closer to my heart the issues become and the more intensely I feel about them, the more likely I am to pollute the true word of God with personal desires and feelings. I'm getting much better with it these days, but it has required a lot of dying and a huge growth of new depths of faith. Finally, no matter where you stood on this election, we are now under obligation, not to be like Israel grumbling in the wilderness or dividing from one another, but to pray lovingly and fervently for Barack Obama. I Timothy 2:1-4 applies, "First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." We must learn to serve "the king" as Daniel served Nebuchadnezzar (the pagan king who conquered his people and took them into exile) and Joseph who used his gifts to bless and serve Pharaoh, king of Egypt, who did not share his faith in the Lord. In this way, like Daniel and Joseph, we may yet gain influence, place and position to positively affect the course of history. God isn't finished. This is the time of the lighthouse church. Let us become that. (Prophetic Moments is an occasional bulletin produced by Pastor R. Loren Sandford, New Song Fellowship, Denver, Colorado. ) |
